Finding a better way.
Meet our hero and our ‘why’: Nora Lyn Williams
Nora Lyn Williams is the very inspiration and driving factor behind our lab’s focus on pediatric cancers. During my graduate studies at MUSC, I (Dr. Bailey) learned that the daughter of a college friend, Kelsey Williams, had been diagnosed with cancer. I was devastated upon Nora’s passing on August 4, 2016—not even three months after she was born. As a mother, the grief and heartache that the Williams had to go through is unimaginable and lives in my worst nightmares. Kelsey often said “there has to be a better way” and that mantra has lived in my head ever since. When I was deciding what I wanted my independent lab to focus on, it always came back to Nora. Our lab has been built in honor of Nora and we are dedicated to finding a better way to treat childhood cancers. Please read more about Nora’s story below (coming soon) and join us in creating a future where families are no longer affected by this devastating disease.
